Once we became coherent late in the morning, we unloaded all the instruments into what is called Meg’s House. The van had been packed to the gills, with us wedged between all the stuff, so it’s gonna be nice to have some room. We have lots of miles to put on this week and this will be our home for a few days.
For those of you who don’t know who Meg was, she was one of the many young volunteer who came down to help after Katrina and Rita. When she was in New Orleans she had an accident and passed away. Below is what I have quoted from another web site. http://www.peoplesfreespace.org/hurricanerelief/
“Meg Perry was an energetic, passionate, kind and dedicated person. She filled her days working for justice, building community and bringing love and joy into people’s lives. She was always ready with a warm smile or to lend a hand. Her contributions to the People’s Free Space were immeasurable, and her dedication to the Frida Bus was inspiring. She logged many hours designing, renovating and decorating the Frida Bus in an effort to create a beautiful, safe, educational space for her community. She organized and attended many Free Schools and put in many hours renovating the People’s Free Space this past summer. For her it was truly a labor of love.”
More detailed story on Meg, http://www.unitedpeacerelief.org/meg.htm
“Meg went down to the Gulf Coast region to assist in Hurricane Relief efforts in September, she returned to organize more people to go down to the region and they traveled down on the Frida Bus. In her last weeks in this world, Meg worked to support people whose lives were torn apart by the hurricanes. She cleaned people’s homes, cleared trees from roofs, read stories to kids, distributed supplies, met with other relief workers and organizers, and tilled up soil for a community garden. Meg died in glory, living life to its fullest and following her passion and visions. Her life is an inspiration to all. Meg Perry’s death is a major tragedy and loss for all of our communities and she will be sorely missed. We are dedicated to carrying on her spirit as we work to make the world a more beautiful place.”
So this is where we come back to, time after time. We have been using this as a base camp, http://www.bioliberty.net/ thanks to Gordon Soderberg. We unload here and then branch out to outer communities, always trying to expand our network.
